One Customer’s Perspective

"The heart of any home is the kitchen, and nothing sets apart a kitchen better than proper lighting," said a customer of lighting expert Michael J. Dove, who has owned Kitchen Lighting since 1981.

"Our typical southern California home was 30 years old. While most of the home had been remodeled over the years, the kitchen still had old fluorescent recessed lighting," the customer said. "It was adequate, but the quality of the light was cold, flat and unappealing. It made our entire kitchen look dull. When we started looking for a way to improve without remodeling, we decided to start with the lighting."

"I had seen several ads for Kitchen Lighting by Michael J. Dove, so I decided to call. What attracted me most was Mike’s promise to have the job done — start to finish — in just one day.

"I was impressed when Michael personally gave the sales presentation. But, I was caught off guard when he didn’t pressure me. He answered my questions and offered advice, and when I told him I wanted to think about it, he gave me a warm handshake and requested I call him when I was ready. The next day I called," said the customer.

"Because I work at home and my home office is adjacent to and opens to the kitchen, I thought I’d lose a day of work," the customer said. "When the crew arrived at 7:30 in the morning, however, they assured me that I wouldn’t have to cover anything. I still thought drywall dust would get into my scanner and printer, until I saw what the crew meant.

"The Dove lighting crew spent the first 90 minutes sealing off the entire kitchen and protecting the floor, appliances and countertops. Then they went to work. They removed my old lighting, put a bull-nose edge on the resulting cavity, applied drywall filler to feather the edges, and then sanded it to blend into the existing ceiling," said the customer. "Then they cut holes for the new recessed lighting and wired it to the existing electrical service. Next they sprayed texture to match the existing finish, installed the optional crown molding (a nice touch), all with a paint ready finish.

"By the time they removed the tape, plastic, and residue, it was only 2:30 in the afternoon. I was able to work through the entire project while I was not more than 10 feet away. There was no dust and no clean up.

"And then, when I turned on the new lights, the light drenched the room with warmth, improved the entire look of our kitchen, and actually masked some of the flaws in our cabinetry with a hint of shadow along the walls.

"We absolutely loved our new kitchen," said the customer. "When we unexpectedly moved out of state a few months later, our home sold quickly and at a better price, because of our new kitchen lighting by Michael J. Dove.
